Our Story

Ever since I can remember, I have always been fascinated with natural remedies.

I learned how to make a smudge stick at a natural perfumery class at the start of 2021. This class opened the door to a whole new world that I had always wanted to explore and learn. What is a smudge stick you may ask. Well think of it like aromatherapy in a stick but more! Instead of diffusing essential oils you use the actual source - dried herbs and flowers with their beneficial aromas in what some have called a “medicinal smoke,” a practice that stands the test of time. Ever since I can remember, I have always been fascinated with natural remedies. As a journalist, I pursued stories on the use of endemic plants for their preventive and curative properties. As a young mother, I sourced organic produce for my sons. I held bazaars every week at a gallery I owned in my workplace where sellers sold homeopathic remedies to organic chicken and vegetables.

My interest in herbal remedies stems from both my parents. My father whose own father was a farmer made sure we had vegetables all the time, even planting his own plot across our home. Even before organic farming became a practice, he made sure no chemicals would touch the plants he grew. My mother, who is a teacher, is a great researcher on natural remedies. She insists on using the natural approach before resorting to Western medicine. We were always connected to nature as a family. Picnics surrounded by pine trees in Baguio City where I grew up are forever etched in my memories of childhood.

I made two smudge sticks in class. I didn't want to burn them. Until a time came when I needed to remove negativity in my life and usher in positive thoughts and emotions.

The natural perfumery class opened my senses, not just the sense of smell, but my entire being to a whole new world of possibilities. I felt more connected to the universe.

I made two smudge sticks in class. They were so beautiful, I didn't want to burn them. Until a time came when I needed to remove negativity in my life and usher in positive thoughts and emotions. I am an optimist and I view life with hope and optimism. But there are moments that are unavoidable when you find yourself in a rut, when a cloud hangs over you or when you just need more clarity in life.

The smudge stick may just be an aromatherapy tool for you to bring in this combination of beautiful natural scents into your home. It can also be a tool to transport you into a mystical and spiritual experience. Lighting, burning and smoking the natural materials in the smudge stick connects us to an ancient practice that has served mankind for thousands of years.

Creating the smudge sticks became as much of a healing and rejuvenating process as lighting them.

So I lit my mini smudge stick and before long I was making for friends and family, with the help of my son Andre. A friend, who knows I grow herbs, wanted some sage to cleanse her space and became my first customer. Creating the smudge sticks became as much of a healing and rejuvenating process as lighting them. In making and lighting them, I feel I am tapping an energy from the universe because I am not only bringing positivity into my life but am also passing it to the lives of others.
